I don't know if you have been following, but there is a big stink going on in New York State politics these days. One of the NYS Senator coup-conspirators from this past summer, Hiram Monserrate, has been convicted of assaulting his girlfriend with a piece of broken glass....cutting her face through to the bone.
In typical New York State political fashion, he was found guilty of a misdemeanor....thereby avoiding a felony conviction and an immediate expulsion from the Senate. That hasn't stopped the chorus of New Yorkers and electeds from expressing their dissatisfaction with the proceedings.
Earlier today, Andrew C. White reported that Senator Gillibrand had called for his resignation or removal.
I'm here to report two more Congressmen who have joined in the chorus demanding that Senator Monserrate leave the State Senate.
More after the fold...
Congressman Hall's statement:
All New Yorkers, especially those who have been victims of domestic abuse, deserve to have Senator Monserrate step down or be removed from office. Monserrate has been convicted of a deplorable crime. The New York State Senate should set the example that violence against women will not be tolerated in our society.
Congressman Massa's:
Domestic abuse is unacceptable and I have no tolerance for it. Senator Monserrate has been convicted and I think he should resign or the Senate Leadership should take steps to remove him from office. Elected officials should lead by example, that is why we must stand united and act decisively to oppose violence against women.
I think the quotes speak for themselves.
We are in quite a battle in New York to clean up the incredible crap heap that is Albany politics and this is step number one.
Click on the following to add your name to the growing list of New Yorkers and Americans who know there is no place for domestic violence criminals in our political system.
Thank you Congressmen Hall and Massa for your leadership.
